Cherokee Elementary ….
Making a Commitment to Clean Up the Environment!

Did you know??
Nearly one trillion plastic shopping and grocery bags are used worldwide each year?
Every year, billions of pounds of plastic grocery and shopping bags needlessly end up in landfills and as litter?

Join Cherokee in the Wal-Mart Kids Recycling Challenge – helping elementary schools
reduce waste and earn cash.  Please collect your plastic shopping bags and deposit them
in the Wal-Mart recycling containers located outside Cherokee in front of the school.
Cherokee will earn $5.00 for every 60-gallon collection bag we fill and we could earn
even more money if we are one of the top recycling schools in the state of Arizona.
The Wal-Mart Kids Recycling Challenge runs from October 1 through March 31, 2008.

How can you help??
Bring your unwanted plastic shopping and grocery bags to Cherokee.  Just remove everything from the bags – including register receipts – and have your child bring them to the Wal-Mart collection bin.  The bags must be clean and dry, and can be made of any type of plastic material and any color, except black.  We can even recycle newspaper bags and dry-cleaning bags.
