SUSD APPROVES SCHOOL BUS USE FOR OPEN ENROLLMENT STUDENTS
In an attempt to alleviate some of the congestion and backup we experience at the Cherokee Campus during peak AM and PM hours we approached the SUSD Board requesting permission for our open enrollment students to make use of the school bus. We are pleased to announce that they approved our request on the following terms and conditions:
a) Open enrollment students may make use of whatever unused space there is presently on the buses that provide service to the Cherokee campus. This will be done on a "first come, first serve" basis. Once the buses are full no additional open enrollment students will be accommodated. SUSD will not be adding extra buses, this school year, to any of the Cherokee bus routes.
b) Open enrollment students will only be collected and dropped off at ALREADY EXISTING BUS STOPS. No additional stops will be added to the Cherokee route.
c) All Open enrollment students K-5th grade may make use of the school bus system. You can make use of the bus for AM and/or PM usage.
d) All Open enrollment students must be met by an adult in the afternoons at the drop-off point. Unlike the older students who are able to walk home because they live within close proximity to the bus stop. If there is no one to meet your child the bus driver will simply complete his rounds and then return your child to the Cherokee campus.
e) Please see the attached link to locate which bus stop would work best for your family. Obtain the corresponding bus number, the time it departs from the stop in the morning as well as the time it arrives back at that point in the afternoon. If you are having difficulty finding out this information please contact the district transportation department or the Cherokee front office to get assistance in this regard.
f) Once you have the correct bus number please ensure that your child/rens teacher is given notification that your child is converting to the school bus system. The teacher will then be able to ensure that your child/ren get to the correct point on the Cherokee campus to ride the bus. We suggest you stick a label onto your younger child/rens backpack, for the first week, to help them remember the bus number.
g) If you wish your kindergartner to make use of the bus "buddy system" please contact Scott Fletcher (scottbfletcher@yahoo.com) and he will arrange for your child to be paired up with an older student riding the same bus.
